Every year on the 3^rd of March, World Wildlife Day takes place, which was launched by the UN in 2013. Today, all the world’s wild animals and plants are celebrated and awareness of them and the troubles they face are raised. 

This year’s World Wildlife Day has the motto “Preserving all life on earth”. Of course, we do not only want to stand up for nature and animals on World Wildlife Day, but the day gives us the opportunity to take a look at how committed our partner hotels are to this cause. We will show you what exciting projects there are, from the Black Forest to Thailand.

Insects welcome!

When we think of animal protection, we usually think of the large animals, but it is the small and inconspicuous ones that are essential for nature and life on our earth. That’s why the Creativhotel Luise in Erlangen is constantly creating new habitats for insects and more than half of the 3000 m2 hotel grounds consist of natural green spaces. There are a large garden, a green roof terrace, and an inner courtyard as well as a small orchard. There are many hiding places for small animals and insects, from deadwood to insect hotels and sandstone walls. For its commitment, the Creativhotel Luise was also awarded the title “Blühender Betrieb” (“Blossoming Business”) in 2019 by the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment.

The Agrivilla i pini in Tuscany grows old varieties of fruit and vegetables, herbs, saffron, wine and olives itself. This means that the vegan hotel can not only do without transport routes for food but with manual farming, noise is also avoided and animals can keep their habitat. Not only the guests but also bats, wild bees and other insects feel comfortable in the Agrivilla due to the many sanctuaries and nesting places. The grass is allowed to grow until it is quite long and is only mowed rarely so that animals can find shelter and reproduce in peace.

In the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA in Bad Herrenalb many animal species feel comfortable thanks to birdhouses, nesting boxes, and flower meadows. The surrounding Black Forest entices guests with unique nature experiences. From spring onwards, the hotel will also have its own bee colony on the hotel grounds.

Everything at the Hotel Rinner in Oberbozen revolves around these busy insects: from the in-house organic beekeeping to the Api-Wellness. Enjoy a break from everyday life surrounded by the wonderful natural offerings of bees. The Rinner family attaches great importance to sustainable use of resources, and not just because of their bees. They are allowed to keep most of their honey and they are not disturbed during the Api-Wellness treatments.

Rainforest Adventures in Peru and Cambodia

The 4 Rivers Floating Lodge is a very special green pearl: Here, you stay in luxurious floating villas in the middle of the untouched nature of Cambodia. And it is precisely this nature that the resort is committed to protecting. The 4 Rivers is dedicated to sustainable tourism and through the partnership with Wildlife Alliance, your stay will directly contribute to the protection of the rainforest in the Cardamom Mountains. Of course, you can also support the Wildlife Alliance actively, for example by helping to clean up the river or by taking part in the “Wildlife Release Tour”, where you can help the staff feed the wild animals or experience the fascinating nature up close on a hike.

The NGO Inkaterra Ascociación belongs to the Peruvian hotel group Inkaterra and together they run many exciting projects and initiatives. The Inkaterra Guides Field Station is located in the rainforest, near the two eco-luxury lodges Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica and Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción: a center from where the diverse flora and fauna of the Peruvian rainforest can be explored – and here, too, you can get involved!

As a volunteer, you can participate in the projects and initiatives of Inkaterra Ascociación and support them in scientific research. Even if you are just on holiday in Peru you can visit the Guides Field Station and take a trip from one of the lodges. The Inkaterra group is not only committed to the preservation of the rainforest and its biodiversity: exciting projects are being carried out in all Inkaterra hotels. One such project is the Spectacled Bear project in the Inkaterra Machu Pichu Pueblo Hotel. The Spectacled Bear is Peru’s only bear species and is endangered by its ever-decreasing habitat. Inkaterra supports the bear through the “Spectacled Bear Program” and in the rehabilitation center, you have the opportunity to get close to the bears that are cared for here and even help the team of keepers feed them.

Supply & demand

Do you want to be more active during your next holiday and support environmental and animal protection? The first important step is to boycott the exploitation of animals because demand determines supply. Our two Thai resorts, The Tongsai Bay and Keemala, advise all guests not to support certain activities and do not sell tickets for animal shows, elephant rides or other attractions that abuse animals for the entertainment of tourists. In return, ethical animal encounters are made possible – and you’ll probably remember them for a lot longer anyway. 🙂
