Have you ever hiked a trail over several days? With a tent and sleeping bag in your luggage, from hut to hut or maybe even with a few cozy hotels between the individual stages?

I really enjoy being on the road with my own muscle power and thus conquering kilometer after kilometer and one or another mountain. (Maybe you already read about our multi-day hike to Choqueqirao?) For many long-distance hiking trails, you can also simply choose the desired number of daily stages – and if it should be more comfortable than a tent or hut, you can then regenerate and recharge your batteries in an environmentally friendly hotel. We will now introduce you to some great long-distance hiking trails and comfortable hotels.

Popular and well-known: the Alpe-Adria-Trail

One of the most famous long-distance hiking trails in the Alps is probably the Alpe-Adria-Trail, which once lead across the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. 37 stages and 7 round trips can be completed on the way from the Austrian Großglockner via Slovenia to the Italian port city of Trieste. The booking center is particularly helpful when the organisation your trip: from luggage service so that you can hike with only minimal luggage, through to booking accommodation, you can find everything here

Culinary delights in the Genießerhotel Die Forelle

After stage 10 of the Alpe-Adria-Trail, which takes you from Danielsberg to Hühnerberg in Austrian Carinthia, you can relax and enjoy the Genießerhotel Die Forelle only 30 minutes away on Lake Weissensee. It’s worth spending more than one night here – and not only because you can cool off in the highest bathing lake in the Alps after your strenuous hike. An absolute highlight is the restaurant: here, owner Hannes and his team cook outstanding dishes with local ingredients. At dinner, 99% of your meal is now free of imported goods and the hotel initiative “Generation Conscience” focuses on the conscious design and constant questioning of all processes in everyday hotel life with regard to sustainability. So, if you looking to pamper yourself and take a few days off from the strenuous trail, the Genießerhotel Die Forelle am Weißensee might just be for you!

Between mountains and sea: La Subida Relais

We also have a very special tip for a short, yet relaxing break after stage 31: The La Subida Relais is in Cormons in Friuli. Close to the Slovenian border, you can feel the influences of the neighboring country, but the Alps and the Mediterranean are still close by. At La Subida you will not only feast in the excellent Trattoria or the charming Osteria, but also spend the night in very special apartments. “Grandma’s Home” for example is built like a small mountain village and in “The House in the Wood” you sleep surrounded by oaks and hornbeams.

Along the Alps: Via Alpina

The Blue Route of the Via Alpina takes you from the glaciers in the south of the Swiss Alps via France to the Italian Piedmont. For the most part, you will be traveling on the Grande Traversata delle Alpi and in the southern part of Piedmont, you will pass the landmark of the Maritime Alps, the impressive 3,841m high Monte Viso.

On the stage D50 Serre di Vald’elva to Ussolo, you pass through the Maira Valley between Acceglio and Ponte Maira – and here too it’s worth a stop! In the beautiful and cozy Locanda Mistral in the small village of Ponte Maira you can recover from the efforts of the last stages and recharge your batteries. Amongst others, owner Manuela will take care of this with the most delicious, typical Piedmontese dishes and you can then spend relaxing hours in the garden. In the evening you can enjoy a beer in the small bar of the boutique hotel, where you can meet other hikers and mountain guide Renato, who also owns the Locanda Mistral.

Over Tenerife in stages

You can also do single stages of a long-distance hiking trail on Tenerife: In three stages over 100 km, you will explore the diversity of the island from the Anaga mountains to the Teide and Vilaflor on the south-eastern edge of the Corona Foresta National Park. The trail is for more experienced hikers, however, even if you return to your hotel after each stage, you will always have some relaxation awaiting. The spacious wellness area of the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa provides the perfect recovery oasis after a hard day’s hiking in hiking boots. Here you can also book tours with Guide Norberto: He comes from the island himself and has been working as a hiking guide for 15 years and knows the island like the back of his hand and can give you lots of exciting information.

Micro-Adventure in Germany

Germany also offers a variety of hiking tours lasting several days, many of which you can find on the Wanderbares Deutschland website: from 2 to 14 stages, whether in the Black Forest, by the Baltic Sea or in the Upper Palatinate – here you will definitely find inspiration for micro-adventures and holidays in picturesque Germany. Wanderbares Deutschland also recommends accommodation that is especially well suited to the needs of hikers. The certificate “Quality Host Wanderbares Deutschland” is awarded specifically for this. The SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA in Bad Herrenalb in the Black Forest is one of these excellent hotels and is perfect for a longer stay with individual tours in the surrounding area (we recommend the Big Round over the Teufelsmühle) or as part of a multi-day tour.
