2019 is almost over and before we start into 2020 with many new adventures and trips, let’s review this year today. Here are our highlights!

That’s how it all started

Anke: I am part of the Green Pearls® team for about six months now – and have written quite a few blog posts for you since then. It all started with food, how appropriate. 😉 I showed you how our hotels combine sustainability and catering and gave you tips on packaging-free shopping. Speaking of food: have you already tried my vegan pumpkin and coconut cake?

Hanna: I really recommend the cake! In addition to some delicious vegan recipes that Anke brought into the team, I was particularly impressed by some concepts we wrote about: for example, the elephant hospital in Lampang. For this article, we spoke to founder Soraida. Or the interview with Marina von Ozeankind e.V! It’s great to see how much one single person can do, that encourages me!

Anke: A few years ago, my husband and I got married and we celebrated our wedding with only a few friends and close family members in our garden. It was quite cozy and we were barefoot, we had homemade decorations and only vegan food. But, if we ever want to host a big wedding party again or renew the affirmative intimately, I would choose one of the hotels we presented in the blog post about Green Weddings.

Our travel highlights this year

Anke: Together with my husband and my son, I spent a few autumn days in the organic family hotel Gut Nisdorf and we immediately felt at home. The two hotel owners, Jürg and Sabine, really thought of everything, so that you can completely relax – even as a working mum.

Hanna: It’s not that easy, because so many exciting things happened this year. One highlight was definitely the trip through Peru! I was on the road for four weeks and saw breathtaking nature, great people and impressive wildlife, from the Amazon, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the coast. But my vacation in Piedmont is also one of the highlights: every day we were out in the unspoiled nature of the Maira Valley. Enjoy the landscape far from the crowds – that’s pure relaxation!

What we learned this year

Anke: Every year I rack my brain over the question of the “perfect” Christmas tree. This year I let you take part in my research – and you can already memorize it for next year. 😉 I was also impressed by the topic of “Import self-sufficiency” and how it is implemented in the Genießerhotel Die Forelle.

Hanna: I had never heard of Api-Wellness before –it’s super exciting! I have not yet noticed everything about the list of sustainable certifications – but it now serves as a reference work for me. 🙂

Blog posts that make us dream

Anke: “The 10 most beautiful saunas for a cozy winter”, “The most extraordinary pools that make us dream of summer” and “The most stunning hideaways for your next vacation”.

Hanna: “Autumn time is cuddle time – the coziest hotels for cloudy days” and “4 tips for your extraordinary wellness vacation in Thailand”. You realize I like wellness. 🙂

What we want to try next year

Anke: Plogging and Api-wellness. As you might have noticed, I also love to bake and to cook and learning from the professionals in one of our hotel kitchens is at the top of my wish list. Harvest the ingredients in the garden of the organic and plant-based hotel Agrivilla i pini in Tuscany and then prepare the dish together – sounds like my vegan dreams come true!

Hanna: To participate in a longer retreat is on my wish list for a while now. Besides, I would very much like to see the porpoises in the North or Baltic Sea.
