November marks the start of the winter vacation season and the ski slopes in many places. If you plan to go on a winter vacation, you should start looking for a suitable destination. We have a few suggestions for you, how and where you can spend a sustainable winter vacation.

Wintervacation apart from the Alps
While the first though for a winter vacation in Europe might be: The Alps. We have some great alternatives for you. “Franconia is certainly not known by many as a typical winter sports area, but there is a lot to experience!”, promises the team from Creativhotel Luise. For example, the Franconian Ochsenkopf is great for skiing. The Ochsenkopf is the second-highest mountain in the Fichtel Mountains.
And of course, there are also many winter activities in Franconian Switzerland that promise lots of fun. Whether tobogganing, cross-country skiing, ice skating or snowshoe hikes: every winter sports fan is sure to get his money’s worth here.
The natural toboggan run near Pottenstein is especially beautiful. Those who prefer to stay close to the Creativhotel can (if it’s cold enough) can go ice skating on the Dechsendorfer Weiher.
If you prefer it warm and cozy in winter, we can highly recommend a visit to one of the many Franconian thermal baths. Around Erlangen, you find the Therme Fürth, Bad Staffelstein ant the Kristall Therme Steine.

Between winter sports and wellness in the Rhone
Also, in the Rhone, around the Biohotel Sturm, you will get your full money’s worth in winter – be it on a winter walk or a real hiking tour.
Especially on the Hochrhön, near the elbow, you have a wonderful view over the whole valley from the viewing platform Noah’s sail. For adventurers or children, there is a high-quality toboggan run at the Ellenbogen. Cross-country skiing is also a great adventure in this area!
Those who prefer skiing or snowboarding can also do so in the nearby area to the hotel. On the Wasserkuppe, on the Kreuzberg or on the Arnsberg there is a well-developed ski slope.
After a successful day trip, you can warm up in the herbal sauna or the Finnish sauna of the Biohotel Sturm with a soothing infusion. Or let your tense muscles be loosened by the hotel’s own trained masseur. The hotel especially recommends a massage therapy or a holistic energetic massage in such a case.
Off to the Alps
A more classic winter holiday destination is the CERVO Mountain Resort. In the middle of Zermatt, there are all the typical activities such as skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and winter hiking. Plus a few more exclusive offerings like paragliding or dog sledding. Staying at the CERVO means you are directly at the ski slope – the valley run ends in front of the hotel entrance and the mountain railroad also leaves directly there.
If you don’t wish to bring out the snow chains, you don’t need a car for every destination. Here you can also get by other means: SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL: WHERE CAN I GO WITHOUT A CAR?
