Ayurveda, the millennia old “knowledge of life”, presents a great complexity and the Ayurvedic treatments affect all aspects of daily life. This is another reason why we are writing our third blog article on the subject. However, this time it is not about the doctrine and philosophy and not even about the various applications and massage techniques. Rather, we are talking about Ayurvedic nutrition and the HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio has provided a recipe for you so that you can integrate a little ancient Indian healing into your daily routine. But what is Ayurvedic nutrition? The nutritional concept is an essential part of Ayurveda. It builds on the individual Doshas, which every person carries in different forms, and we can influence, among other things, through an adapted lifestyle and diet.
But what is Ayurvedic nutrition?
The nutritional concept is an essential part of Ayurveda. It builds on the individual Doshas, which every person carries in different forms, and we can influence, among other things, through an adapted lifestyle and diet.
Ayurveda: What can you eat?
Pay attention to your body. That is one of the principles of Ayurvedic nutrition. What is good for you? What is not? Initially, you should stick to the foods you are used to, in order not to overload your body. There are recommendations in terms of stimulating or dampening flavors to which the individual Dosha types may be oriented. So, a person who is mainly Pitta (fire with a portion of water) can use sweet and bitter foods to somewhat dampen the fire. In addition, as a Pitta type, you will tolerate carbohydrates much better than others. Kapha (earth and water) types, on the other hand, tend to eat spicy, salty or acidic foods and spices, and eat light foods to avoid reinforcing their tendency toward inertness. If you are inclined to the Vata type (air and ether), you reinforce the volatile nature of your character with tart and spicy foods.

An Ayurvedic daily routine
Rather than focusing too much on the components of food, you might also start by incorporating a conscious routine. Particularly in our fast-paced times, it is hard to consciously enjoy meals instead of just viewing them as a needed evil. But part of the Ayurvedic way of life is to eat regularly. Midday is the main meal, in the morning and in the evening there is only light food like cereal oatmeal or soups. You should abstain from food for one to two hours before sleeping. Ayurvedic diet recommends warm water or tea instead of iced drinks. This is something you can implement immediately from the Ayurvedic way of life: First, drink a glass of warm (ginger) water after waking up. This will fill your fluid reservoirs and give you a fresh start to the day.
And: Put your cell phone aside when you eat, concentrate on the food in front of you and enjoy the taste. Take, for example, the HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio’s ayurvedic, sweet or savory breakfast waffles.
