Have you ever been to Thuringia? That’s exactly where our new green pearl is located, right at the Zeulenroda Sea, which of course is not a sea, but a reservoir in the middle of Germany. Since 2012 the lake is open for tourism and you are allowed to swim there as well.
Vacation directly at the water

The MANOAH houses, Manoah stands for “place of rest” by the way, are located directly at the reservoir and in summer you can rent all kinds of boats (kayaks, rowing, pedal and sailing boats) from the local water sports school or test your talents in stand-up paddling. Your own vacation home has a terrace with a spectacular view of the water and invites you to relax and enjoy yourself. For all water rats, there is an alternative to the lake for the cold season: the tropical adventure pool Waikiki in Zeulenroda-Triebes. Here everything is offered from water slides to whirlpools.
Not in the mood for swimming?
The region is perfect for hiking, for all active people, there is the dam trail around the Zeulenroda and Weide dams with a total length of 48km. You can also do the trail in smaller stages. For example, it is only 5.5km from the vacation homes to the dam. The promenade path between the lake bath Zeulenroda and the Bio-Seehotel runs directly along the lakeside and is also barrier-free. Here eleven fitness machines will make you sweat. In addition, there are ten play and knowledge stations, which provide variety during a walk.

Excursion destinations close by
Around the MANOAH houses there are many beautiful places to visit. You can go high up in the Panorama high ropes course right next to the Bio Seehotel, and you can improve your skills by climbing the four courses. The Rabensleite animal enclosure with its many native wild animals or the nature trail in the nearby Pöllwitz Forest are both educational and especially exciting for children.
Explore Thuringia
We have a few more tips for culture and history fans. You can find a complete package of experience and culture for example at the Leuchtenburg in Seitenroda. Here you will learn something about the Middle Ages as well as the history of porcelain – a unique combination.

Beautiful cities with history
Approximately half an hour drive from the vacation homes is the small town of Greiz, where there is plenty to discover. The Sommerpalais shows exciting insights into the state book and copper engraving collection. You can find out more about the courtly life in the royal city in the lower and upper castle of the town.
It takes about 45 minutes by car to get to Jena and this way is also worth a visit. Here you will find, among other things, a large botanical garden, the Zeiss Planetarium and the German Optical Museum. The city on the river Saale is also famous for the Friedrich Schiller University and is very popular for students.
We have one last tip for all adventurous explorers. There are three caves near the MANOAH houses: the Syrau Dragon Cave, the Gerar Caves under the old town of Gera and the Saalfeld Fairy Groote.
Thuringia has a lot to offer and the MANOAH Houses are ideally located for many different excursions – no matter which season or weather.

A little poem about my hometown Altenburg in Thuringia:
ALTENBURG – TOWN AND COUNTY
Altenburg, old and beautiful City,
Where life is easy, women are pretty.
The market is a place to take a rest,
The town hall a building of the best.
Churches and museums are inviting,
You go for a walk and keep surprising.
The old castle at a rock on a hill
You absolutely have to view still.
The lake Großer Teich with its island
Offers Zoo, boat hire besides silence.
On your way you see wonderful trees,
The air is clean, within birds and bees.
Altenburg County, land of woods and lakes,
This fine region has quite got what it takes.
Where the rivers Pleiße and Sprotte flow,
By the Gerstenbach coloured flowers grow.
Animals and plants you can admire,
The nature lifts you higher and higher.
You’ll find friendly people day and night,
I hope, your visit will be alright.

A little poem about my homeland Thuringia:
THURINGIA
Thuringia, beautiful land of green,
Wonderful places, you must have seen.
A land of high culture and fine art,
Buildings so pretty, people so smart.
Old castles and churches on your way,
Cities and small towns invite to stay.
Nice villages right and left the road,
On rivers you take a ride with boat.
Woods and lakes you can admire,
Nature lifts you higher and higher.
Goethe and Schiller loved this region,
Thuringia hopes you to welcome soon.
