Our mouth watered when we got the pictures for this tasty vegetarian Burger from The Tongsai Bay! We are curious how the Thai taste buds unfold in combination with the classical burger ingredients. Presumably you cannot harvest a jackfruit in your garden unlike the Eco-Resort on Koh Samui – but most probably you can get jackfruit in many grocery stores as well. Because the pulp of an immature jackfruit resembles the consistency of meat it is often used instead of meat in the vegetarian or vegan kitchen.

We wish you fun when trying the recipe!

Tip:

Should you not find a Jackfrucht or do not want to purchase it because of the long transportation routes, you can also prepare tasty vegan or vegetarian “rissoles” from chickpeas, beans or lenses.

Ingredients
  • 200 gr. Tongsai garden Jackfruit
  • 150 gr. Lentils bean
  • 20 gr. Red curry paste
  • 200 ml. Coconut mild
  • Salt and sugar to taste
  • 1 pcs. Bun burger (180gr)
  • 30 gr. lettuce
  • 30 gr. cucumber
  • half avocado
  • 15 gr. sun-dried tomatoes
  • 20 gr. sour cream
  • half tsp. curry powder
  • 160 gr. potato wedges
Directions
  • Step 1 Process dried jackfruit or pick a young jackfruit from the Tongsai garden and peel skin off and then cut in cubes, then soak in salt water 1 hour. After that boil until it is soft, put the jackfruit on a tray and bake, oven temperature 140°c, for 30 minutes until the color is brown, then have it cooled down and pull the jackfruit.
  • Step 2 Make the burger mixture: In a large bowl, use your clean hands to gently mix together the pulled jackfruit, lentil bean, red curry paste, coconut milk, salt, pepper and sugar. Mix it, then leave it a minute or two and then process patty of 200 gr.
  • Step 3 Grill the burger on high, direct heat to the desired doneness, between 5-8 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the burgers until cook temperature 70°C. You can use the lettuce instead of the bun.
  • Step 4 Prepare the hand cut bun with lettuce, add cucumber, avocado slice, sundried tomato, sunflower spout, white & black sesame.
  • Step 5 Assemble the burgers: Serve on side with sour cream, curry powder and potato wedges.
