You may have already heard of Plogging, don’t you? It’s a new trend where you collect trash while running. Originally this trend was focused on running, but of course, it’s also possible to implement it while walking, trekking or strolling.
The best thing about it: it’s not only good for your body, but also for the environment. We show you how it works and which of our hotels are supporting Plogging.
Trash, wherever you look
Unfortunately, we meet it everywhere: Whenever you are around nature, you will find some trash on your way. Whether empty packings, bottles or tissues – the trash bags are often not used or they are overloaded. That’s why Plogging is a trend we’d like to follow! The idea originates from Sweden, as well as the term itself. The Swedish word “plocka” means collecting, searching or picking up and is combined with the word “jogging”. The additional movement for picking up trash while jogging is really good – because we are training more muscles and therefore burning more calories!
You can plogg everywhere and do not need any additional equipment. All you need is sportswear, shoes and a trash bag, which you can easily carry with you. And there you go! It doesn’t matter if you go through some field, through urban areas or along some beaches – unfortunately, you will definitely find trash everywhere.
Yvonne Castlunger from the Dolomit Hotel is absolutely excited about Plogging and wants to motivate her guests: “I want to encourage all people who are visiting our country to keep it clean – that’s why I want to show them how Plogging works”, the daughter of the hotel owners’ reports.

Collecting trash and leave it at the Hotel – Plogging while trekking through the Dolomites
Since 2018 people are collecting trash which they found lying in nature while strolling, biking or trekking through the environment around the hotel. In order to participate every guest at the beginning of their stay at Dolomit Boutique Hotel & Homes gets a biodegradable garbage bag. In this bag they collect their own trash or trash they find during outdoor activities and bring it back to the hotel. The employees will take care of the correct disposal. Yvonne’s goal is to create awareness for more environmental protection and social engagement among both guests and employees – and therefore enable an ethical correct and sustainable tourism.
Forest-cleaning in Bad Herrenalb
Just like the saying “Talking is not doing” (“Geschwätzt is no lang ned gschafft!”) the guests at the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA get the opportunity to support sustainability by being actively involved. During the “Forest-cleaning” you are collecting trash with other guests while walking through the forest – and this trash will be weighed in the end. The person who collects most will be announced the trash-collecting-champion. At the end of a long day everyone comes together for an after-work drink – and to be surprised by the variety of the collected trash, because experience shows that there will be a lot of it.

Plogging for everybody!
By the way: you can also plog without jogging – when you’re going for a walk with friends while biking or even while you are pushing a stroller. Just always carry a bag with you to help to keep our environment clean.
