Do hotel rooms equal energy wasters?

Did you know that an overnight stay in a hotel consumes between 15 and 37-kilowatt hours of electricity? The exact consumption depends on the size of the hotel and whether there is a wellness area, for example. After all, the power supply is becoming increasingly “green” overall. Around 42% of electricity consumption in Germany today is based on renewable energies. Green Pearls® hotels use more environmentally friendly green electricity whenever possible. Where does your electricity come from? Do you already have green electricity?

In-house electricity-generating at Berghotel Rehlegg

Some hotels produce their own electricity through photovoltaic systems. The Berghotel Rehlegg can cover 70% of its electricity needs with an additional combined heat and power plant. And with modern technology such as LED lighting or intelligent heating control, the hotel is continuously working on reducing the purchased electricity even further.

Energy-saving electrical devices

The Naturhotel Outside also relies on the use of energy-saving electrical devices. The lighting is 90% LED and timers sensibly control the outdoor lighting. By the way, you can save energy yourself with a main power switch in the room.

Renovation at Creativhotel Luise

In 2018 and 2019, the Creativhotel Luise renovated the hotel building and in this way made a major impact on the regulation of thermal energy. The hotel uses district heating from Erlanger Stadtwerke and has its own photovoltaic system. We also find the hotel’s orbital showers very impressive. These were actually designed for space and save an incredible 80% of the energy used and even 90% of the water used compared to a conventional shower. In order to act as sustainably as possible, the hotel regularly trains its employees.

Warm water

The OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa is also all about water, and not just because of its beautiful location on the Atlantic Ocean. Solar energy allows the hotel to provide 50% of its hot water. And a new cover system for the pool helps with better heat retention. This way, you can swim your laps in the warm water without feeling guilty when the sea is too cold.

A lot of sunshine on the Maldives

In the Maldives, the sun shines for an average of eight to nine hours a day, and the Reethi Faru Resort takes full advantage of this. With over 4,000 solar cells installed on the staff accommodation, up to 80% of the required energy is produced by the resort itself. The resort also uses water sparingly. Rainwater, for example, is filtered and reused as drinking water, and wastewater is reused for gardening.
