Hoteliers up close: Finding yourself at OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa

Day after day, our Green Pearls manage to combine the themes of travel and sustainability, and the people behind them are very committed to doing just that! In our series Hoteliers Up Close we introduce you to these fascinating individuals and their wonderful hotels.

Today we are going to Spain, and more precisely to the island of Tenerife. Here you will find our Green Pearls® hotel the OCÉANO Health Spa. The married couple, K. Matthias Rolle and Magda Corominas Roig are the hosts of this beautiful hotel. Under the motto “con pasión” (“with passion”), they and their staff, with a great deal of expertise and passion, ensure that guests feel completely at ease and enjoy a relaxed stay.

The direct location on the beach, regional and healthy cuisine, health spa and sauna area, as well as comprehensive yoga offerings, ensure a completely holistic approach to well-being. Those who spend their holidays here also have the opportunity to take part in an F. X. Mayr treatment course, which is carried out under the supervision of the hotel’s medical director, Dr. Georg Kettenhuber.

Oceano Health Spa quote

The establishment of the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa:

The OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa was designed and commenced construction in the 1960s and finally opened in 1975. It was built in the first phase of tourism development in the Canary Islands, in a municipality that was unable to cope with the massive expansion of tourism on the islands which began in the 1980s. It is currently under its 3rd generation of management by K. Matthias Rolle (doctor for F. X. Mayr medicine) and his wife Magda Corominas Roig.

I am particularly proud of this green project in the hotel:

Our involvement and commitment to the EU Growth Project which will reforest the laurel forest groves in the Anaga Mountains.

These millennia-old forested areas were placed under special protection as Parque Rural de Anaga in 1994 and declared a Biosphere Reserve in 2015. The Anaga Biosphere Reserve begins just a few hundred meters behind the hotel. Here, the laurel forest, which also existed in the Mediterranean during the Tertiary Era, has been preserved in its original state and invites you to explore an ancient world on hikes and other excursions.

For me, sustainability means:

Holidays as a resource for returning to oneself, so that new creativity can be realized. Preservation of the tried and tested along with constant development; growing in quality instead of quantity. A fair balance between the Canarian population and guests from all over Europe.

What makes this hotel so special:

Its location, directly on the Atlantic Ocean with all rooms having a view out over the water and all the way to the 3718 m volcano Teide, the highest mountain in Spain and UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.

What we plan for the future:

Organic certification of our cuisine and a specialization in healthy, revitalizing food in cooperation with the F. X. Mayr fasting clinic which is integrated into the hotel.
