Keemala awarded the GreenSign label as first hotel in Thailand
Congratulations to Keemala Hotel for being the first hotel in Thailand to be certified with the GreenSign label. This is a good reason to introduce the label to you.
GreenSign is a sustainable certificate that was developed especially for the hotel industry. You probably have already seen the green leaf on a hotel website. The GreenSign certification is divided into five levels. Based on this classification, you can at a glance see in which area the hotel is already sustainable and in which areas there is still room for improvement.

“Sustainability is a process that never stops,” says Suzan Heinemann, GreenSign Managing Director. “Through our tier system, each hotel has the opportunity to enter at its individual sustainability level and consistently move forward.” This motivational system seems to be working: More than 80 percent of hotels now have a good Level 3-5. When a hotel applies for the label, it has to fill out the GreenSign certification catalog. That’s over 100 criteria from 8 areas! These include: Management and communication, environment, biodiversity and cultural heritage, purchasing, regionalism and mobility, quality management and sustainable development, social and economic responsibility. Even while sifting through the criteria, some hoteliers come across things they can do more sustainably that they hadn’t even thought of before. That’s how we feel sometimes, right? You just get a little impetus from outside – and you’re ready to go. Before certification, each hotel is audited on site, and then the level is valid for three years. By the way, GreenSign was launched in 2015, and more than 240 hotels in 14 countries are certified with the label.

Level 4 – a great achievement
The Green Pearls® Hotel Keemala has been classified with the first certification on level 4. A great achievement, but not surprising to us because the founders Samornpun and Tanapong Somnam have given the protection of ecosystems top priority from the beginning. What we find particularly great: Almost all the food we need grows in the Keemala’s gardens. Herbs, fruits and vegetables are used almost exclusively from our cultivation.
Did you know that the Geen Pearls® Naturresort Schindelbruch, SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA, Green City Hotel Vauban, and the APIPURA Hotel Rinner in Italy are also GreenSign certified?
