If you want to get away from the crowds of winter sports enthusiasts, but still don’t want to do without snow and the mountains, a snowshoe hike is the perfect alternative! Best of all, you hardly ever meet anyone and can enjoy a real secluded winter wonderland!
Together with friends, I recently went on a great (but also very strenuous ;-)) tour in the German Alps. It starts at the parking lot of the Wankbahn in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and leads through the forest, partly quite steep, up to the summit cross. We were lucky, the weather made us enjoy a breathtaking view of the Alps on one side and the flat surrounding countryside on the other under a blue sky and sunshine. After a break at the summit cross and a lot of photos later, we hiked back to the valley on the other side of the mountain. Due to the loads of snow, we were sliding all over the place (in the beginning involuntary). 🙂 Especially helpful: the adjustable walking sticks – a relief for both up- and downhill running.
