Snoozing in a cozy bathrobe after a relaxing feel-good massage, smelling the pleasant aroma of a sauna infusion, and above all, feeling calm and relaxed. A spa visit is a great way to wind down and recharge your batteries for everyday life.
In cooperation with the experts from the Green Pearls® accommodations, we will show you how green wellness works and provide you with practical tips for a sustainable spa visit.
5 tips for a sustainable spa visit
1. Own bathing slippers instead of disposable slippers
Using disposable slippers creates an enormous amount of waste in hotels and spas. Thousands end up in the garbage can after just one wear. You can avoid this easily by packing your slippers in your suitcase or bag. It is a small effort that will be greatly appreciated by the environment.
How the sustainable Green Pearls® partners do it

Many times, it only takes small adjustments to achieve more sustainable behavior.
When you’re a guest at Biohotel Sturm in the Rhön, you’ll get a little reminder before you arrive to bring your bathing shoes from home. Furthermore, the Naturhotel Outside in Osttirol and the Hotel Bella Vista Zermatt asks in the arrival email to think of your shoes for the spa area. To avoid waste at the point, slippers are no longer automatically available in the hotel rooms or spa areas in these hotels.
Don’t worry, though. You are welcome to ask for some at the reception desk, or you can borrow some from a friend if you don’t have any. At Hotel Bella Vista Zermatt, you can get flip-flops for a deposit.
2. Multiple use of towels
When it comes to towels, multiple use is an important word. The way you use towels in the spa makes a huge difference. For many people, a fresh towel is the best way to feel good. Spa operators face this issue, as many people think this way. Moreover, it is customary for us to receive or take a new one in the spa area. If you go to the spa again, you should use the one you have in your hand. That way, fewer towels will need to be washed, which in turn will protect the environment and the climate.
You can read about the effects of one wash here.

Hotels promote multiple use
Green Pearls® partners strongly encourage their guests to use towels more than once. Some even hand out just one towel. The Hotel Bella Vista Zermatt, for example, provides towels exclusively in the rooms to prevent too many towels from being used. Of course, you will get a fresh one upon request. The Hotel Weihrerhof welcomes guests with signs that hint that other guests have used their towels multiple times. 😉

3. Natural cosmetics for treatments
4. Saving energy—even in the spa
Energy saving is a further tip that should not be missed when it comes to sustainable behavior in the spa. We currently read tips for saving energy at every turn, such as only letting water run as long as necessary. The SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA hotel encourages its spa guests to help save energy, for example by limiting the time spent in the shower and quickly closing the sauna doors behind them.

Green Pearls® hotels face the challenges of the energy crisis
Green Pearls® partners are looking ahead to winter with creative and innovative ideas. You may read what our Green Pearls are doing to counteract the energy crisis here in our newsletter on the topic.
5. Drinking bottles and reusable cups
Drinking enough is an important part of a spa day. Better too much than too little because the body is challenged during sauna sessions. To avoid disposable cups, bring your bottle to fill up. Or use reusable cups or glasses, such as those provided in many sustainable hotels, for tea and water.
Sustainable relaxation
You see, it doesn’t take much to make your spa visit more sustainable. Green hotels and spa providers support you with their initiatives. Next time you visit, look out for more opportunities and share your tips for a sustainable spa visit here or on social media.
