POU DE GLAÇ—Ice Fountain
When you spend your vacation at POU DE GLAÇ—ECO TOURISM in Siurana, you will find the historical sites right on the spot. The vacationhome complex is located beneath the Pyrenees near the bay of Rosas and consists of three exceptional vacation homes. On the property you’ll find a listed ice fountain, which is now used as a space for exhibitions, receptions, or yoga retreats. Originally, it served as a natural refrigerator for storing ice. You can imagine the building as a kind of igloo made of stone. The ice was taken from a nearby pond in winter and stored there until June.
The owners of the facility attached great importance to the conservation of the listed igloo. The ice fountain also served as the namesake for the vacation home domicile. It is registered in the register of monuments as “Bé Cultural d’Interès Local (BCIL)” under the number IPA-38126. And also, around the cottages, there is a lot more to discover.
Maslina Resort
If you travel to Maslina Resort on the island of Hvar, you should plan a few days for sightseeing. There are many great things to discover. The history of the island can be traced back to 384 BC, when Greek immigrants built the first island settlement on the Adriatic Sea. The ancient city of Pharos, now Stari Grad, was the island’s capital at the time and is now home to a total of six UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Plain of Stari Grad. You can admire there the best-preserved system of ancient Greek land use in the Mediterranean. This UNESCO-protected World Heritage Site, the largest and most fertile field in the Adriatic, stretches for 6 kilometers and has been practically intact for over 24 centuries. The old shepherd village of Humac can also be reached from the hotel. It is a living cultural monument full of picturesque ruins and small stone houses. The nearby Grapceva Cave is also popular: rich in stalactites and stalagmites, it houses the oldest prehistoric drawing in Europe, dating back to 4,000 BC. If you visit Hvar Fortress, you can combine sightseeing and hiking. And you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the city and the sea. This 16th century Fortica Spanjola watches over the town of Hvar and the harbor from its high place.
Creativhotel Luise
When you’re a guest at Creativhotel Luise in Erlangen, you certainly won’t be bored because you’ll find a wealth of sights in the immediate vicinity. The Markgrafentheater Erlangen is the oldest baroque theater in Germany. The theater was built in 1715-1718 under the direction of Margrave Georg Wilhelm. Especially impressive is the hall, which radiates an exceptional atmosphere through its paintings and decorations. You also have the possibility to take part in a guided tour once a month or—what we would advise you to do—just visit one of the numerous theater plays.
From Erlangen, you can quickly reach the world heritage city of Bamberg with its picturesque little streets, historic half-timbered houses and bridges. The most famous historical building, the Bamberg Cathedral of St. Peter and St. George, is located on the cathedral square. It is worth climbing the tower for a bird’s-eye view of the city center. The cathedral houses the world-famous Bamberg Horseman, the oldest preserved lifelike medieval equestrian sculpture made of stone.
In nearby Nuremberg, we recommend a visit to the Kaiserburg, which towers high above the city and is Nuremberg’s landmark. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most important imperial palaces of the Holy Roman Empire. From high above, you have a spectacular view over Nuremberg.
