It is not always easy to find the perfect hotel for ourselves, because we all have our demands and ideas. Unfortunately, the search is even more difficult when it comes to barrier-free hotels. But many of our green pearls have wheelchair accessible rooms and even cottages and we introduce them to you today.
Wheelchair accessible hotels
Wheelchair accessible hotels have ramps, wide doors and the rooms are spacious. Bathrooms are accessible by wheelchair and have wall supports. The hotels also have suitable elevators. If you have any individual concerns, you can of course always contact the hotel teams, they will be happy to help you.
Discovering the Swiss mountains with a wheelchair
The CERVO Mountain Resort is beautifully located in the Swiss mountains. With views of the Matterhorn, it sits just above Zermatt. The hotel has plenty of wheelchair accessible lifts to get from point A to point B. Rooms are wide enough to allow wheelchairs to fit, and the more modern bathrooms have walk-in showers with no steps. Although Zermatt is a car-free town, there are cabs that can be used with wheelchairs. It’s best to pre-order your cab ahead of time. All trains and gondolas in Zermatt are wheelchair accessible. The viewing platforms Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn can also be easily explored with a wheelchair to enjoy the beautiful view.
Vacation homes with certification
In the middle of Germany, in Thuringia at Lake Zeulenroda you will find the vacation village MANOAH. These houses were just completed and opened last year. There are a total of 6 barrier-free houses on the property. The German Seminar for Tourism Berlin e.V. recently officially certified the houses with the “Travel for All” award. It was certified as barrier-free for people with walking disabilities, for wheelchair users as well as barrier-free for people with hearing disabilities and deaf people. The houses have a wheelchair accessible daylight bathroom and the kitchen is also built at wheelchair accessible height. By the way, the 3-kilometer-long promenade path between the Bio-Seehotel and the Zeulenroda bathing beach is also barrier-free. You can even rent a special bathing wheelchair at the tourist center at the beach bath.
Integration in practice
The Green City Hotel Vauban in Freiburg’s city center follows a great integrative concept and has done so since its foundation. There are 3 wheelchair accessible bedrooms and one of them is certified according to DIN standards. But that’s not all, the hotel employs people with and without disabilities. About half of the employees are people with disabilities. This is inclusion in practice and a great example!
