Do you know this too? You’ve slept badly and already you’re struggling through the entire day. The fact that sleep has an impact on our well-being and our health is already clear when we have slept poorly for just one night. Those who sleep little often feel weak, lack energy, and are easily irritable. Sometimes, however, there are also whole periods in which we sleep badly. You probably already know that this has an impact on our health.

The three phases of sleep

Our body uses the night to regenerate itself. When we sleep deeply and tightly, we go through a total of three sleep phases. The light sleep phase, the deep sleep phase, and the so-called REM phase.

During the light sleep phase, our respiration and blood pressure slow down, our body temperature drops, and our brain waves leave the waking beta state.

Of greatest importance to our health is the deep sleep phase. Here, the body shuts down all functions to focus on regenerating all systems. The brain releases hormones for regeneration, cells are repaired while increased efforts are made to fight pathogens. During deep sleep, the growth hormone somatropin is released, which strengthens bones, boosts performance and repairs muscle injuries. In addition, according to recent studies, the production of immune cells is highest during sleep. That’s why it’s so important to get plenty of sleep during colds and flu-like infections.

In the REM phase (rapid eye movement phase), our long-term memory stores both memories and new information. New knowledge can only be stored in the brain during deep sleep. For example, if we are in the process of learning, knowledge is not stored until we are asleep.

By the way, the three sleep phases are repeated several times during one night. Up to five cycles are possible.

Sleep prevents diseases

Since our system shuts down during sleep, sleep disorders can lead to serious illnesses. High blood pressure, heart rhythm disorders, and cardiovascular diseases are then often the result. Those who have a good night’s sleep reduce the stress hormone cortisol which helps prevent depression and burnout. A good night’s sleep, therefore, protects us from illness, boosts our performance, and makes the body more resilient.

It is also important to our Green Pearls® Hotels that their guests sleep well. A good night’s sleep naturally includes the right environment and the appropriate accessories.

Sleep coach at Berghotel Rehlegg

The healthy sleep of its guests is so important to Berghotel Rehlegg that they work with a sleep coach. Christine Lenz advises national and international companies and clinics, among others, in the field of sleep medicine. According to the concept of Christine Lenz, you get a completely new sleep feeling in the room category “Lichtnelke”. There are swinging beds, foot basins for Kneipp, dream swingers on the balcony, sour cherry and walnut bed taps, and cumulu pillows. All rooms are equipped with hot and cold water bottles, the hotel’s own sleeping tea, earplugs, and much more. The outdoor beds at Berghotel Rehlegg were also an inspiration from the sleep coach.

Wood supports sleep

Who is surrounded by wood, sleeps deeper, has a calmer pulse, and stronger nerves! The rule is: the more original the wood is processed, the better are its effects on us. Wooden rooms have such a calming effect on us that every night we can save an hour’s heart work. The beds at MANOAH are also made of wood, more precisely of Swiss stone pine. This makes us feel better, it reduces our sensitivity to the weather, harmonizes and stabilizes our circulation, and makes us feel refreshed and rested. For the construction of the vacation houses “moon wood” from sustainable forestry was used. The wood is cut in winter when the moon is waning, just before the new moon. It is particularly stable, durable, fire-resistant, and resistant to parasites. Glue, metal, toxic chemicals, or wood preservatives were also avoided, making it possible to create a health-promoting and particularly life-energy-giving building exterior.
