In many countries, curfews due to the corona pandemic have led to busy cities and regions suddenly becoming almost deserted. Where humans have retreated, the animal and plant world is spreading. Our Green Pearls® Hotels have also observed changes in nature and collected them for us. Some hotels have been actively campaigning for animal protection for a long time anyway. We would like to introduce some of these exciting projects to you.

Thailand is recovering

The idyllic location of The Tongsai Bay pleases not only us but also many wild animals living in the wild. In order to protect the animals on the premises, the employees are sensitized in dealing with animals. For example, snakes that come too close to the guest area are caught and released in other places. The Green Pearls® Hotel is also involved in various local animal welfare projects, for example for the local elephant sanctuaries. Some former stray dogs and cats were taken in by The Tongsai Bay, given medical care and now live freely on the premise. The bay has recovered from visitors during the Corona period and the sea lures with clear water. Even the otherwise shy Loris, have shown up in daylight. Due to the absence of tourists, more wild animals have been sighted all over Thailand. On Koh Samui sea turtles laid their eggs on a beach for the first time in years.

Questioning habits

Even if there is no animal welfare project of your own, you can make conscious decisions to do less damage to your environment. Thus, the Genießerhotel Die Forelle obtains whole animals for complete recycling from small farmers. So no animal from fattening lands on your plate.

At the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA, animal welfare is considered in many areas. In the spa, you will only be treated with natural cosmetics free of animal testing. Currently, the Green Pearls® Hotel is looking for a hygienically impeccable, microplastic and animal-tested cleaning agent. Also, discover the newly opened species garden and enjoy the hotel’s busy bee colony.

Sea habitat

At Gili Lankanfushi everything revolves around the sea as a habitat. A project for the conservation of coral reefs is supervised by own marine biologists. A further concern in the area of animal protection is the preservation of the seagrass. The grass reduces carbon and produces oxygen and is therefore a real climate protector. Due to Corona, there are significantly fewer people in and around the sea. The coral reefs are free of snorkeling travelers and the absence of motorboats has also been good for nature. Manta rays and sea turtles are also observed with photo traps. Gili Lankanfushi regularly organizes beach clean-ups on the beach and coral reefs where you can participate.

Hotel OCÉANO

The Green Pearls® Hotel OCÉANO is located at the Anaga Biosphere Reserve and is therefore already close to nature. Last year the beautiful garden was redesigned. It was now able to spread out and flourish. The birds that have taken over the green area have also enjoyed it. In the OCÉANO you can listen to the sound of the sea and the songs of the birds.

Biodiversity in Peru

Ecotourism and nature conservation are offered and promoted in the areas of the Inkaterra Hotels. The Inkaterra Asociacion – ITA – manages and operates conservation concessions in these areas.

Nature is relieved by the absence of visitors. Especially popular with the animals are the beautiful botanical gardens, which we definitely recommend for your visit there. But also, some rodents, squirrels, sloths and many bird species have spread out and discovered new places for themselves. It is easier to see and observe the animals because they are not disturbed by as many people as usual and therefore hide less. Depending to the location of the hotels, the populations living there could be observed more strongly again. In the Amazon region, many primates were sighted around the hotel complex. In the Green Pearls® Hotel Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, for example, deer and Andean foxes appeared. The vegetation around all Inkaterra Hotels has also recovered and trees and plants are beautiful to look at. Which of course especially pleases the insects. What work especially bees have done by pollination and how the flora is spreading will be seen in the coming season. For the time after the pandemic, a management plan will be drawn up in order to continue to protect the corresponding areas in nature in harmony with the hygiene measures and to enable guests to enjoy a unique travel experience as usual. Inkaterra warns that illegal activities such as deforestation in the Amazon region have not been stopped by the pandemic. Preserving the earth’s green lungs is therefore a major concern right now.

In full bloom

On the hotel grounds of the Creativhotel Luise it hums and buzzes. Several insect hotels, beehives and green spaces provide a habitat for the animals in the middle of Erlangen. In 2019, the Green Pearls® Hotel was awarded the title “flourishing business”  by the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment.
